Marking the 8th death anniversary of noted theatre personality Abdullah Al Mamun today, the first show of ‘Chardike Juddha’--a play written by Abdullah Al Mamun--will be brought to the stage by theatre troupe Natyam Repertory today at 7pm at the Studio Theatre Hall of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy (BSA), Segun Bagicha in the city.
Directed by Shubashish Dutta Tonmoy, the casts of the play include Muhammad Kaiser Rifat, Uttam Chakraborty, Amitav Rajib, Kamruzzaman Mithu, Sohanur Rahman Sohag, Mostafa Kamal Murad, Lita Khan and others. The stage lights of the play have been designed by Mokhlesur Rahman, while Junaid Yousuf designed the set and Tarak Nath Das directed the music.
Besides, before staging the play, a commemorative discussion will be held where noted theatre personality Ramendu Majumder and Golam Sarwar will be present as discussants.
On the other hand, to pay tribute to this noted playwright, actor and filmmaker, Abdullah Al Mamun Theatre School Praktoni is holding a commemorative event, where noted theatre personality Ferdousi Mazumder will recall the memories of him.
Later, the troupe will stage the 25th show of its much-acclaimed play ‘Prothom Partho’ today at the Experimental Theatre Hall. ‘Prothom Partho’, which has been written by noted academic Buddhadeb Basu.
The cast of the play includes Shirin Bokul, Tania Hossain, Nur Zaman Raza and Golam Shahriar Shikta, among others.
To note, Born on July 13, 1942 in Jamalpur District, Abdullah Al Mamun completed his Honours and Masters degree in History from Dhaka University. He wrote his first stage play, ‘Niyotir Parihas’ in 1950. Subsequently, under the guidance of Muneir Chowdhury, he further developed his skills as a playwright, director and actor. He wrote 25 dramas and seven novels, an autobiography ‘Amar Ami’ and a travelogue ‘Manhattan’. ‘Ekhono Kritadas’, ‘Tomari’, ‘Amader Sontanera’, ‘Kokilara’, ‘Bibisab’, ‘Meraj Fakirer Maa’ and ‘Mayik Master’ are few of his popular plays. He founded drama group ‘Theatre (Bailey Road)’ and was an adviser to quarterly magazine ‘Theatre’. Plays produced by Mamun include ‘Songsoptok’, ‘Pathar Somoy’, ‘Jibon Chhobi’ and ‘Baba’.
Abdullah Al Mamun made his debut as a filmmaker with the film ‘Angikar’ in 1972 and earned much critical acclaim for movies like ‘Sareng Bou’ released in 1978. His other acclaimed films include ‘Ekhoni Somoy’, ‘Dui Jibon’, ‘Sokhi Tumi Kaar’ and ‘Bihanga’. Abdullah Al Mamun won many awards, including the prestigious Ekushey Padak, National Film Award and Bangla Academy Award. He died on August 21 in 2008. l
