President of BU teachers assoc, 3 others quit

Four office bearers of Barisal University Teachers Association (BUTA) including its president resigned from their posts on Thursday.
A total 9 out of 15 elected executives of the association have been resigned in last one month facing the pressure of other group.
Mohammad Jamal Uddin, acting chairman of Soil Science and Environmental Science department with four others were also resigned last month.
Arif Hossain, resigned president of BUTA said he along with vice president Jotirmoy Biswas, executive members Sujan Chandra Pal and Asim Kumar Nandi submitted their resignation letters to Hasinur Rahman, dean of the science and engineering faculty on Thursday night.
They said due to pressure of performing teaching and research duty, they could not give enough time for organisational activities.
Hasinur acknowledging receiving of resignation letters said the resigned BUTA leaders showed personal causes for resignation.
However, the resignation of BUTA leaders came after Shafiul Alam, Abdul Kaium, former president and former secretary, Tarek Mahmud and Abir Hossain, members of BUTA, charged present committee member for their failure and negligence in performing organisational duty at the meeting of BUTA, related sources said.
The meeting was ended by altercation and scuffles among the two groups. Few days earlier Jamaluddin, secretary, Nusrat Jahan, treasurer, Sanjoy Sarkar, Rashed Mosharraf, Sharmin Aktar, members of 15-member executive committee also resigned showing same reasons, sources added.
