RANGPUR: Journalists under banner of ‘Sangbadik Samaj Rangpur’ formed a human chain in front of the Rangpur Press Club yesterday protesting militancy and communalism.
As part of their countrywide programme, journalists in Rangpur held the programme with slogan ‘Jangibajder Birudhdhe Rukhe Darao Bangladesh’ (Wake up Bangladesh to fight against militancy and communalism) from 11am to 12pm yesterday. Later, a rally was held.
Sadrul Alam Dulu, president, Rangpur Press Club, was in chair. Speakers said there is no room for militancy and terrorism in Islam. But some people are trying to unrest the country by killing the innocent people.
They said those who are carrying out militant acts are the evil forces and enemies of Islam. They also called upon all to put up a strong resistance against communalism and militancy.
The speakers supported the announcement of the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina that there is no space for the militancy in this soil and expressed their solidarity on Prime Minister’s speech.
They said journalists will continue their fight against militants and terrorists together and free the country from this dangerous menace.
Momtazuddin Ahmed, administrator, Zila Parished Rangpur, and Acting-President, District Awami League, Freedom Fighter and political person Advocate Illius Ahmed, Ali Ashraf, Secretary, Press Club Rangpur, Aftab Hossain, Merina Lovely, Staff Reporter, Channel-I, Susanta Bhoumik, Correspondent, Khola Kagoj, were present, at the rally, among others.
BSS adds from Khulna: Speakers at an anti terrorism and militancy rally and human chain here yesterday said journalists can play vital role to resist terrorism and militancy.
"Journalists will be able to root out militancy from the country if the journalists are united," they said and urged the members of the journalist community to come forward to resist militancy and fundamentalism.
As part of the countrywide programme called by Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists (BFUJ), Khulna Union of Journalists (KUJ) organised the rally and human chain from 11 am to 12 noon in front of Khulna Press Club in the city.
Meanwhile, anti-militancy human chains and rallies were held in the different upazilas of Gazipur district yesterday as a part of massive anti-militancy and terrorism campaign by the journalists across the country.
Local journalists took part in the human chains and rallies.
