The two-day programme marking the first death anniversary of Indian President Pranab Mukherjee’s wife Shuvra Mukherjee began in Narail yesterday, reports BSS.
Prime Minister’s Finance Adviser Dr Moshiur Rahman attended the inaugural ceremony as the chief guest while Indian High Commissioner Harsh Vandhan Sringla formally inaugurated the two-day event at Tularampur.
State Minister for Fisheries and Livestock Narayan Chandra Chanda and Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor Dr. AAMS Arefin Siddique addressed the inaugural function, among others. Shuvra Mukherjee Foundation President and Narail District Council Administrator Advocate Subash Chanda Bose was in the chair.
Shuvra, who was born in Bhadrabila village of Narail sadar upazila on September 17 in 1947, breathed her last at Indian Army Hospital on August 18 in 2015.
As part of the programmes, Hindu religious rituals were observed on the premises of Sri Sri Gopal Mandin and Kari Mandir.
Addressing the function, Dr. Mashiur Rahman said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina wants to reach all sorts of services to the doorsteps of the people and Shuvra Mukherjee also used to think in this way.
Shuvra Mukherjee loved the people of this country from the core of his heart, he said, adding that she worked as a bridge between Bangladesh and India.
Indian envoy Harsh Vandhan Sringla said Shuvra Mukherjee was a true friend of the peoples of both Bangladesh and India.
Shuvra was born to Amorendranath Ghosh and Meera Rani Ghosh. She was second among nine brothers and sisters. Her family migrated from Narail to Kolkata in 1955 when she was 12 years old.
