Passenger train services between Khulna and Kolkata through Benapole will be launched by next year, Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Harsh Vardhan Shringla said yesterday. Benapole is one of the priority points for boosting the country’s trade and commerce with India through the Petrapole-Benapole port. The Indian envoy also said that small and mid-range businesspersons would get 5-year multiple-entry visas for conducting trade through the port. He was addressing a programme at the Benapole C&F Agents Association’s auditorium. At the programme, Mofijur Rahman Sujon, President of the C&F Agents Association, and Emdadul Haque Lota, association’s general secretary, discussed various problems of Import and export activities through the Benapole–Petrapole Land Port. Speakers also demanded easier visa processing at the port. After the programme, the Indian high commissioner visited custom and immigration office at the Bangladesh side and the integrated check post at the Indian part of the port.
