MPs need to be careful in making laws, says CJ

Chief Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha yesterday urged parliament members to be careful while enacting any law noting as a flawed law creates pressure on the judiciary, reports UNB. “I hope whenever our honourable parliament members will formulate any law that will be the appropriate one,” he said while addressing a memorial discussion on former Attorney General Mahmudul Islam at the Bangladesh Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) auditorium.
Addressing the judges, the Chief Justice said, “I’ll first say my perimeter as a judge is I’m a judge. My job is to do works at the court in due time. My job is to give the judgment in due time. As an individual judge, I must remain above criticisms.”
He also advised the lawyers not to pursue with any client if their dispute lacks merit, saying this principle will help reduce the backlog of cases.
SK Sinha urged the officials of the executive department of the government not to go beyond their jurisdiction.
Earlier at the Full Court Reference programme at the Supreme Court, the Chief Justice discussed various aspects of the eventful works of nine former Justices and 49 lawyers of the Supreme Court.
