RANGPUR: Ensuring school-based hygienic sanitation, pure drinking water and better health practice in the backward rural communities would help in building a healthier nation, reports BSS.
The opinion came at an advocacy meeting organised by Rangpur unit of Bangladesh Red Crescent Society (BDRCS) with officials of the Education Department at the Conference room of NGO Forum on Wednesday.
The meeting was arranged under Community-based Development Initiative (CDI) 2 WASH Programme being implemented with funding of Australian Red Cross through International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC). The programme has been ensuring drinking water for 6,500 students of 15 educational institutions, hygienic toilets and sewerage systems under Najirdigar Community in the city and Padmapukur Community under Mithapukur upazila in the district.
In addition, the Programme has been ensuring same facilities for the common people living within 5-kilometre peripheries from all of these two backward communities in the district and in two other backward comminutes in Gopalganj district.
Education Officials, Chairman and Members of School Managing Committees (SMC) and Heads of 15 educational institutions under CDI 2 Wash Programme in the district participated.
Additional Deputy Commissioner (Gen) Dr ATM Mahbubul Karim attended the meeting as the chief guest with Rangpur unit Secretary of BDRCS Shah Md Nabiullah Panna in the chair.
