BCB ready to accept any ‘logical’ security demand of England

Sports Reporter

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has no reservation to give any type of security to the visiting England team apart from the standard security facilities if it is logical one.
Nizamuddin Chowdhury, the BCB’s CEO said they have got the assurance from the government to fulfill any reasonable request from the England Cricket Board (ECB) with regards to the security.
“The security plan that we have sent was a standard practice in case of any bilateral series,” said Chowdhury. “Thereafter, we will try to fulfill their reasonable request if any. We have got the assurance from the government. Hopefully we will be able to fulfill their request.”
The ECB’s delegation that included security advisor Reg Dickason, PCA chief executive David Leatherdale and ECB’s director of cricket operations John Carr arrived in the country yesterday to inspect the security condition and venues which will host the England’s upcoming series in Bangladesh.
While this is a routine visit before England’s scheduled arrival on September 30, for a tour comprising three ODIs and two Tests, it has gained significance following the terror attack in Dhaka on July 1, which left 20 people dead.
The delegation had meetings with the UK and Australia High Commissions before they also visit USA embassy. They will call on Home Minister of Bangladesh tomorrow before they inspect the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium, informed the CEO. The high officials of Bangladesh security agencies and other forces will also be present during their meeting with Home Minister.
“The team will physically inspect the venues, where their team will play. They will also monitor the accommodation in hotel and other facilities. They will have meetings with the BCB and security entities regarding the medical, logistic and security plan provided by the BCB.” On the third day of their three-day tour, they will visit Chittagong, the other venue of the series.
“They will also go for visiting in Chittagong, where they will look after the venue, hotel and other facilities.”
The delegation will also have meeting with the BCB president Nazmul Hassan Papon before they leave the country on Saturday. Chowdhury ruled out the speculation that the delegation will meet Prime Minister, “As far as I know, there is no such schedule to meet Prime Minister.”
He also trashed any suggestion of shortening the tour. “There is no such discussion held about shortening the tour.”
The BCB however is confident of the senior team’s tour after England’s Under-19 team participated in the World Cup in January this year. Australia had withdrawn their Under-19 side from the tournament and had earlier postponed a tour scheduled for October 2015 due to security concerns.
