Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) yesterday in a drive at Bangladesh Telecommunications Company Limited’s (BTCL) Nandankanon office caught two officials red handed while taking bribe and recovered Tk20, 000 from their procession.
Later ACC held another officer of the same office in the connection of taking bribe.
The detainees were identified as Gias Uddin, chief assistant and Humayun Kabir, the duo were caught red handed while taking bribe and later arrested telephone operator. Later ACC detained BTCL’s divisional engineer Pradip Das. “Two officials of BTCL demanded bribe to Abul Kashem Bhuiyan, a former assistant engineer of BTCL, a freedom fighter, who went retired seven months ago. Getting the information we have taken position at the Nandakanon BTCL office and detained the two officials while taking bribe,” said Mainklal Das, deputy director of ACC. “Later for the same allegation we have detained Pradip Das and searching in a steel cabinet at his office room we recovered Tk1, 48, 900,” added Maniklal Das. “Conducting drive at room of Gias Uddin Tk80, 000 and savings of Tk83, 000 was recovered,” added Das. In the drive ACC also recovered two land buying deeds of Tk17.85 lakh and Tk2.40 lakh respectively which were registered on Gias Uddin and Humayun Kabir’s name.
