The High Court yesterday ordered the Special Tribunal-1 of Khagrachhari to finish the trial proceedings of a case filed against three alleged Jama'atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) leaders, held in the district, in next three months. The case was filed in 2009 against three JMB leaders---- Abdur Rahim, Delwar and Yunus Ali--- for setting up a training centre at Matiranga of Khagrachhari and giving training to JMB members there.
The HC bench of Justice M Enayetur Rahim and Justice JBM Hassan also asked the judge of Special Tribunal-1 of Khagrachhari to submit a report before it in three months on the progress of the trial proceedings of the case.
The HC bench came up with the order during the hearing on an appeal filed by Yunus Ali seeking bail in the case.
They were arrested on September 27, 2009. A day after their arrest, police filed a case against them under the Anti-Terrorism Act and the Explosive Substances Act with Matiranga Police Station. Since then, the trio were in jail.
The trial court rejected a bail petition of Yunus on July 24. Later, he filed an appeal with the HC against the lower court order.
