ECB security delegation due today

A three-member delegation from England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) led by its security advisor Reg Dickason is expected to arrive in Bangladesh today for a three-day pre-tour visit to check out all the tour arrangements.

PCA chief executive David Leatherdale and ECB’s director of cricket operations John Carr are also in the delegation along with Dickason to have the routine visit what now has gained significance following the terror attack in Dhaka on July 1, which left 20 people dead.
England are scheduled to arrive on September 30, for a tour comprising three ODIs and two Tests.
During their stay in Bangladesh, the team will have meetings with government security entities, the UK, the USA and Australian High Commissions in Dhaka. They will also meet home minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal.
BCB president Nazmul Hassan Papon, MP himself worked out the necessary arrangements and prepared the probable schedule of the English delegation team after he returned home from London on Sunday.
On the first day of the visit, the delegation will go to the embassies of the UK, The USA and Australia in Dhaka, where they will hold talks about the overall security situation of the country.
The team will go to the secretariat to hold meetings with the government security agencies on the second day before flying to Chittaong, another venue of the tour.
They will also inspect the venue ground, hotel, security and other logistic plans in Chittagong.
“We have been in constant touch with the ECB for the past few months,” said Jalal Younus.
“Besides, if they want to meet any other top officials of the government, we will get them the appointment. Terrorism is not an issue only in Bangladesh but in many parts of the world like London, Paris or India. But that does not mean sports will be stopped or hampered,” Younus also said.
Yunus reiterated that the security measures will be taken serious, considering the series is being seen as an event important to ‘national interest.’ He wants the cooperation from the all stakeholders in a bid to make the tour successful.
“We need cooperation from everyone. This tour of England has become a national interest now and I will expect everyone to do their respective duty properly,” Yunus said, adding “The accreditation system for this series will be done very carefully and also the entrance to the stadium will have vigilant monitoring.”
He said that they are confident of the senior team’s tour after England’s U-19 team participated in ICC U-19 World Cup in January this year while Australia had withdrawn their Under-19 side from the tournament and had earlier postponed a tour scheduled for October 2015 due to security grounds.
“We’d arranged such a big tournament without any trouble and England sent their team to it. I hope they will take note of that,” Yunus said.
