Security to be beefed up at hospitals 
The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on Sunday decided to beef up security at all public and private hospitals and a guideline would be issued soon in this regard, said an official handout.
An instruction would also be made asking the authorities concerned to list the names of the teachers and students who remained absent for long in all medical and dental colleges across the country, the handout added.
The decisions were made at an emergency meeting on hospital security held at health ministry with State Minister for Health and Family Welfare Zahid Malik in the chair.Senior officials of the ministry were present. 

Youth held with pistol, ammo in Gazipur
Police arrested a young man along with one pistol, one magazine and five rounds of bullet from Barmi village in Sreepur upazila early Tuesday.
The arrestee was identified as Shangkar Saha,40, son of late Ramesh Saha of Muradnagar upazila in Comilla district. 
Officer-in-charge of Sreepur Police Station Asaduzzaman said tipped off, a team of police conducted a drive in the area and arrested Shangkar Saha at about 12:30am. The law enforcers also recovered one pistol, one magazine and five rounds of bullet from his possession. 
A case was filed in this connection.

Youth killed in road crash 
A youth was killed in a road accident at Rongila bazaar area on Dhaka-Mymensing highway in Gazipur on Tuesday. 
He was identified as Jwel, 20, son of Hazrat Ali of Kewa village under Sreepur upazila in the district. 
Officer in charge of Mawna highway police station Hafizur Rahman said, Juwel, along with a councilor of Sreepur municipality Kamruzzaman were going to attend a function  in  Sreepur riding a motorcycle. While they were reached Rongila Bazar area at around 2 pm, a Dhaka bound pick up van hit their motorcycle, leaving Jewel dead on the spot and Kamruzzaman injured seriously.  
He was sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital. Police seized the covered van, but its driver could manage to flee away from the spot immediate after the incident. 

Seven ‘drug peddlers’ arrested 
Chittagong Metropolitan Police in separate raids on Monday arrested seven drug peddlers with yaba tablets, liquor from different area under Bayezid thana in the city. The arrestees were identified as Ruma Begum, 25, Munni Akter, 30, Rahima Begum, 30, Selina Akter, 26, Chamuda Khatun, 56, Rafia Khatun,50 and Aysha Khatun,29. 
All hailed from different areas under Bayezid thana in the city.  Separate cases under process with the police station in this connection.
