Barisal City Corporation (BCC) will place a high ‘ambitious’ budget amounting about Tk 415 crore for the 2016-17 today.
BCC mayor, however, assured that the corporation would not impose any fresh taxes on the city dwellers.
Amount of BCC budget will be crossed Tk. 450 crore related sources said. Several new development projects will be included in the budget, sources said.
Ahsan Habib Kamal, BCC Mayor, will announce the 15th budget after getting approval of the councilors at 11am at the Nagar Bhavan Conference Room in presence of the councilors and officials of BCC and administration and journalists. This is the third budget of his tenure
BCC mayor already held several pre-budget meetings with the cross section of people of the city in last one week and received public demand over BCC budget.
In separate programmes of pre-budget exchanging views with media men he vowed to make the city child-friendly and acknowledged that implementation of development budget depends on grants from government.
He explained his success and limitations in developing the city said development works mostly depended on receiving allocations from government and non-government sources.
Human and women rights activists of Barisal demanded special allocation in the budget of Barisal City Corporation for repairing the city roads, starting of beautification work, starting of water supply from water treatment plant, stopping early marriage, sexual harassment and preventing violence on the women.
