While there was widespread speculation that Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) president Nazmul Hassan Papon would hold a meeting with England Cricket Board on the England’s upcoming series in Bangladesh, during his London trip, he actually didn’t make any attempt.
The BCB chief rather is willing to follow the official correspondence that was going on between the two countries at the moment. Papon visited London to stand by the side of fast bowler Mustafizur Rahman who underwent an operation on his shoulder.
Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) president Nazmul Hassan Papon told media that they are maintaining their official corresponding with England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) for the next bilateral series.
“During my recent tour in London I held no talk with England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) regarding the next series. Actually we are going to maintain our official correspondence with them. I didn’t want to communicate with them outside of it,” Papon said.
Papon said England tour is on and that their security team, led by Reg Dickson is scheduled to come here on August 17. “Today I made all the arrangement of their meeting on August 17 and 18 respectively.”
“We are ready to give if they present any observation after checking out the arrangements. But I can say that the security plan we have given them is the best in the world. The risk is everywhere in the world. London is the most vulnerable. But if they talk regarding any additional security we will look into that. We are open. We don’t see any reason to stop the game,” he added.
The BCB chief however also disclosed a number of issues that are now in the focal point.
On Mustafizur Rahman: About Mustafizur Rahman, Hassan said that he will return home from London on August 18 if everything is fine.
“I was there before and after his operation. He was fine. He feels pain on Friday morning. And so doctor suggested staying the night (Friday) for his betterment though he was scheduled to leave the hospital on that day,” he said, adding “He got released from hospital yesterday (Saturday). His next appointment is on August 17 (11:30am local time). If everything is fine then he will return home from London on August 18. But if doctor suggested staying there he will be in London for the next few more days.”
On players’ payment in DPL: Papon informed BCB will pay the players who remained unpaid and then the board will realise the money from the clubs.
Franchise for the next BPL: The BCB president said that they will soon float their advertisement seeking new franchisees for the next edition of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) within the next two weeks.
“The new franchise will be added to the next edition of the BPL. Last year Rajshahi applied but we could not take them due to delay. Khulna may also come this time. We will do it following the proper procedure,” he said.
“We will soon float our advertisement, seeking new franchise for the 2016 BPL within 15 days. Then we will check out who are the most interested for it,” he said, adding “There is a possibility of dropping one or two franchise as they didn’t follow BCB rules.”
Issue of Ruwan Kalpage: Papon said that they will take their final decision regarding Ruwan Kalpage after the end of the deadline.
“A timeline set by the board has been given to him till August 16. If he didn’t come within this deadline we will then take a decision against him.”
