Finance Minister AMA Muhith yesterday said Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was rare statesman in the world who tried to bring equality among the people of Bangladesh.
"Bangabandhu means Bangladesh and, Bangabandhu means equality. He thought all are equal," he said this while addressing as chief guest at a programme on the occasion of 41st death anniversary of Bangabandhu. Economic Relations Division (ERD) organized the programme at its auditorium at Sher-e-Bangla Nagara in the capital.
Presided over by senior secretary of ERD Mohammad Mejbahuddin, planning secretary Tarique –Ul -Islam, and additional secretary of ERD (World Bank wing) Kazi Shafiqul Islam addressed the programme, among others.
The father of the nation took various initiatives to remove inequality and strengthen the country's economic base, finance minister said.
The minister said, "All of you present here are the employees of the People's Republic of Bangladesh."
Muhith said Bangabandhu was closely involved with the initiative taken by Hussain Shaheed Suhrawardy and AK Fazlul Haque for restoration of self determination of then East Pakistan.
Terming Bangabandhu 'Best Bangalee of all time', the minister said he took various visionary measures for economic and social development of the country. "We have to implement those visions for the betterment of the nation."
He said Bangladesh emerged though a complicated situation in exchanges of hundred of thousand people through a bloodshed war.
About Bangabandhu’s ideology, he said he would realise the fundamental rights of East Pakistan and he devoted himself to serve the people from student life.
