Bangladesh iconic all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan returned home from Caribbean Islands one and half-a-month after his Caribbean Premier League (CPL) stint yesterday.
Shakib played for Jamaica Tallawahs, who lifted the CPL title for the second time, where he showcased his dexterous performance with both bat and ball.
After winning the glory in CPL, Bangladesh poster boy set his target to fare well for the country in the upcoming bilateral series against England at home turf.
“Bangladesh is now very better side. We have been playing better brand cricket. Bangladesh has ability to win against England,” said Shakib Al Hasan.
“I think we should win one day. We have also ability to win Test. We will try to win one match out of two. At least we will try to draw the series. Overall I wan to win both ODI and Test series,” Al Hasan told media after landing at the Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport.
Shakib passed a hectic schedule in CPL as he had to run not only different Caribbean islands but also Florida in America to play for his CPL team. And so he does not join with the team. Consulting with the head coach and team manager, he will fix his next course of action.
“After a long busy schedule, I want to spend some times out of cricket. I want to join with the team’s main practice,” he said, adding “I will talk with coach what suggestion he gives. What type of rest is needed for me or what should I do now. So, I will decide it after discussing with coach.”
Ace all-rounder proved his prowess for Jamaica Tallawahs in CPL, where he scored 160 runs with one half-century and scalped 12 wickets off 13 matches. Behind the champion of the Tallawahs, Shakib said, “We had a good side. All we are expecting to do well for the team. But luck is also needed a bit for becoming champion along with the performance of all the players.”
“I think overall my performance has been better. The way I bat in T20 I don’t always get chance to play. I could do perform for the team in most cases what is needed from me for the team’s success. I am satisfied with this,” he told in response to a query about his personal performance.
“There were some great bowlers in the team. Beside them, I really bowl well. Even I was lucky enough to pick so many wickets. I will try to maintain it. Let’s see how much I can continue it ahead,” the left-hander said.
About his decade-long career that he completed on August 6, the 29-year-old said, “I have elapsed a good time since last 10 years. There were ups and downs in these periods. I gathered ample experience in these times. In cricketing sense, it was a great time. I passed a good time by whom I have played with across the globe. Hopefully I will contribute in such way in days to come.”
When asked about Mustafizur Rahman, spinner-turned-batsman said that the contribution of all the players remain behind the team’s success.
“Those, who have been playing for the team, are needed for it because every player’s contribution is needed for the team’s success,” he said, adding “Of course, he gives a good start for us. His presence is important for the team. Now it is important for him to be fit. Hopefully he will come round and return to the fold.”
