Muhith asks freedom fighters to remain alert about militants

SYLHET: Terming the militants as enemies of the country finance minister AMA Muhith urged the freedom fighters to remain alert about the militants and terrorists, reports BSS. Militants are the enemy of the country and they must be resisted socially, said the minister while inaugurating the office of the Sylhet unit command of Muktijoddha Sangsad in the city yesterday.
He said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and her government is always with the freedom fighters. The government is working for the welfare of the freedom fighters and will continue to do so in future, he added.
Mentioning August as a month of mourning Muhith said some misguided people killed the Father of the Nation of this month.
The country could have made much progress had Bangabandhu remained alive, he said.
About the role of Sylhet region to the liberation war, Muhith said Commander-in-chief of the Mukti Bahini General MAG Osmani and Major General CR Dutta played leading role in the Liberation War.
Most of the people at that time were in favour of Liberation War and contributed to the historic war from their respective positions, he added.
Commander of the Sylhet city unit of Muktijoddha Sangsad Bhabtosh Barman Rana presided over the programme while deputy commander Abdul Khalique, advocate Mujibur Rahman Chowdhury, former MP Syeda Zebunnesa Haq, Mahila Awami League leader Naznin Hossain and MA Sabit, among others, spoke.
