JU expels 2 students for ‘taking drugs’

The authorities of Jahangirnagar University (JU) suspended two students of the university on charge of taking drugs on the campus. The decision was taken at an emergency syndicate meeting, headed by JU VC Prof Farzana Islam, on Thursday midnight, confirmed JU registrar Abu Bakr Siddique. The suspended students are Mainuddin Joni, a student of Bangla department and resident of Al Beruni hall, and Md Sazzad Hossen Sayem of computer sciences and engineering department and resident of Shaheed Rafiq Jabber hall also ex-leader of Bangladesh Student Union (BSU) of Jahangirnagar University unit.
A six-member prove committee, headed by Prof Rasheda Akhter of Anthropology department, was formed to enquire into the allegation. It was asked to submit the probe report within next two weeks.
Earlier, general students detained the suspended students red handed while they were taking drugs openly from room no-335 of AFM Kamal Uddin hall at about 3 pm and handed over the duo to the proctorial body.
Later, the authority handed over them to the Ashulia police station.
The detainees confessed that they were taking drugs and their involved in drug trading for a long time on the campus.
They also informed that some students and employees were involved with their business.
According them, Asif of Maulana Bhashani hall, Tomal from AFM Kamal Uddin hall, Farabi from Bangabandhu Shekh Mujibur Rahman Hall, Shagar, Adnan, Mamun of Mir Mosharraf Hossen Hall, Raju and Adittya from Shaheed Salam Barkat hall and Ullash from Shaheed Rafiq Jabber hall regular in taking drugs specially heroin.
Apart from Sharif of Islamnagar, Sobhan of Bishmile, Sunny of Bipile the neighboring areas of university campus and university transport unit employee Monir were involved with this drug business.
