Thakurgaon college in dire straits

Academic activities of 12,000 students of Thakurgaon Government College are hampered as the institution is beset with multifarious problems including shortage of classrooms, teachers and toilet for long.
Students of the college alleged classes were not held regularly due to teacher shortage.
The teachers do not take regular classes. Most of the teachers engaged in private tuition, said Tushar, Rakib, Safar, Jui, Sharmin, students of the college.
Besides, there is shortage of classrooms in the college. There is no canteen and auditorium in the college, they alleged.
There is also shortage of toilets. For the male students there is only one toilet. Students can drink water from two tube-wells, but one is out of order now.
Guardians Mosarraf Hossain, Saiful Islam and Tarequl Islam alleged that the teachers sometimes misbehave with the students.
They urged the Principal of the college Dr Golam Kibria Mandal to solve the problems immediately and restore a congenial atmosphere of education.
Regarding this issue the principal said “If anybody files written complaint in this connection, necessary steps would be taken.”
Refuting the allegation of not taking classes by teachers he said the students of the college have achieved a good result. Without regular classes it is not possible.
Vice Principal of the college Abu Bakar Siddique said, “This year 84.5 per cent students got GPA-5 in HSC examination. Last year 85 per cent students got GPA-5.”
Students studying 10 honours courses in the college, said he.  The college authority is trying to solve other problem, the principle said.
