Industries Minister Amir Hossain Amu yesterday said a large number of people have been falling sick due to inhaling polluted air and taking adulterated food, reports UNB. “People are being affected with various diseases for inhaling polluted air and taking adulterated food. The government has strengthened legal structures apart from creating awareness among people,” he said while addressing a function in the capital.
The Fortification of Edible Oil in Bangladesh Project of the ministry arranged the function to hand over edible oil refinery machines - i-check croma - to oil refiners. The Industries Ministry is implementing the project with support from Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN). Amu said the government has already enacted the Edible Oil Fortification with Vitamin ‘A’ Act-2013, aiming to ensure Vitamin ‘A’ enriched edible oil for all.
Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institution (BSTI) is conducting countrywide drives to implement the law, he added.
