The power generation capacity would be 17,000 megawatt (MW) by 2018 and 15,000 MW by November this year as the government has undertaken special initiative to supply electricity to every house by 2021, reports BSS.
"The government has been working relentlessly to supply electricity to every house and bring 100 percent people under power coverage by 2021 and currently 76 per cent people are enjoying electricity," State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul

Addressing a press briefing at his ministry conference room yesterday, he said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina would inaugurate 100 per cent electrification of six upazilas under Rural Electrification Board (REB) on August 13.
The REB provided power connection to 2,38,650 consumers and constructed 3,527 kilometre transmission line of the six upazilas at cost of Tk 535 crore, Nasrul said.
"We will be able to bring 95 upazilas under 100 per cent electrification during the financial year 2016-2017 due to bold and dynamic leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina," he said.
The upazilas include Tungipara of Gopalganj, Bandar of Narayanganj, Palash of Narsingdi, Boalkhali of Chittagong, Adarsa Sadar of Comilla
and Bholahat of Chapainawabganj district.
The state minister said the REB has targeted 2018 as the year to bring as high as 95 percent people under its electricity coverage to supplement the government's ongoing development process up to the country's reaching its desired goal.
The REB brought 1.58 crore consumers under its power supply network through its 78-Palli Bidyut Samity across the country and the number of consumers 84 lakh, he said.
"The government led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is pledge-bound to make "Digital Bangladesh" by ensuring access to power for all citizens by 2021," Nasrul Hamid said.
He said the power generation capacity is now over 14,565 MW including captive power and the ministry has been working aimed for building "Sonar Bangla" as dreamt by Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman."
The state minister said the REB has undertaken initiative to install 57 lakh prepaid metres by 2021 along with its regular work.
Replying to a query, he said that the government requires more than three years for uninterrupted electricity supply to its consumers.
