Newly appointed Australian High Commissioner in Dhaka Julia Niblett has said she will work to strengthen Australia’s development, trade and foreign policy ties with Bangladesh, building on the countries’ strong people-to-people links and developing economic relationship, reports UNB.
“I look forward to deepening the longstanding bond of friendship between our two countries during my stay in Bangladesh,” she was quoted as saying in a media release in the capital yesterday.
High Commissioner Niblett has already presented her credentials to President Md Abdul Hamid and acknowledged the depth of the ties, noting that Australia had been one of the earliest countries to recognise Bangladesh’s independence.
Niblett who has also been posted to Bangkok, Paris and Manila with the Department of Immigration, arrived here on July 18.
