Schoolgirl killed in roof collapse
KHULNA: A schoolgirl was killed when a roof of a two-storey building collapsed on her at Ahsan Ahmed Road under Kotwali thana in the city on Saturday, reports UNB.
The deceased was identified as Abida Arabi Sarafi, 15, a class VIII student of Iqbalnagar Girls School and daughter of Emdadul Hakim, a resident of the area.
Sukumar Biswas, officer-in-charge of Kotwali police station, said the roof of a two-storey old building collapsed on her during rain around 10 am, leaving her critically injured. Later she was rushed to Khulna Medical College Hospital where doctors declared her dead. Abida met the tragic end when all the house inmates were outside the house for work, said police.
2 held with yaba tablets in N’ganj
NARAYANGANJ: Members of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) in a drive arrested two people along with 2,480 pieces of yaba tablet from a branch office of SA Paribahan Courier and Parcel Services at Bangabandhu Road in the city on Friday.
The arrestees were identified as Ripon Mia, 35, and Abdul Kaiyum, 32, of Sonargaon upazila. Tipped off, a team of Rab-11 raided the SA Paribahan branch office and arrested the duo around 8pm. Later the elite force recovered of 2,480 yaba tablets to be sent here from Cox’s Bazar, after searching their bodies. A case was field under the Narcotic Control Act.
BCL activist stabbed in Sylhet
SYLHET: An activist of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) sustained stab injuries in an attack by miscreants in Shahi Eidgah area of the city on Friday night, reports UNB.
The injured was identified as Arafat Hossain Chowdhury Akash, 21, a resident of the area and BBA student of Madan Mohan College. Police and locals said Akash came under attack by a group of miscreants on the way to his residence in the area at night. The miscreants chopped him with sharp weapons indiscriminately, leaving him injured. Critically injured, Akash was admitted to Sylhet Osmani Medical College Hospital. A case was filed with the Airport Police Station.
