Call to eliminate disparities against ethnic communities

RAJSHAHI: Speakers at an advocacy meeting here yesterday unequivocally called for eliminating existing disparities against the ethnic communities besides ensuring their fundamental rights, reports BSS.
They mentioned that the ethnic people are not the isolated communities in the country. So, their rights must be protected rightly. There should be time-fitting measures so that their rights on property, education and health are protected.
Adibashi Sangskritik Unnayan Sangstha (ASUS) organised the meeting at a community center in the city in association with Manusher Jonya Foundation.
Convener of Adibashi Affairs Parliamentary Caucus (AAPC) Fazley Hossain Badsha, MP, addressed the discussion as chief guest with Raj Kumar Shaw, executive director of ASUS, in the chair. Large number of ethnic minority leaders, government officials, members of the civil society and ethnic minority students joined the meeting.
Deputy Director of Divisional Ethnic Minorities Cultural Academy SM Shamim Akter, Presidium Member of Jatiya Adibashi Parishad (JAP) Anil Marandi, Assistant Upazila Education Officer Ahsan Ara Rubi, JAP District Unit President Bimol Chandra Rajoad and ethnic minority leader Chittaranjan Sarder also spoke as special guests.
Fazley Hossain Badsha said the aboriginal peoples have trusts and confidence in the Awami League government and the government should do all possible betterment for them and there is no alternative to it.
Expressing his solidarity with all the demands raised by the ethnic leaders in the meeting he said the government should be pledged bound to establish their rights on land.
Lawmaker Badsha called for freeing the ethnic people from all sorts of disparities, repression and harassments. He also stressed the need for enhancing budgetary allocation for elevating the condition of the disadvantaged people. He also urged the government to enhance budgetary allocation for elevating their living and livelihood condition.
