Three fishermen drowned as a trawler capsized during storm in the Meghna River at Borir Char in Hatiya upazila early yesterday.
The deceased were identified as Jamal Sarang, 45, and Abdul Matin, 24, both residents of Rahania village, and Rakib, 15, a resident of Shunyerchar village of the upazila.
Survived and injured fishermen said the trawler, carrying 15 fishermen, sank in the river during storm when they went to the river for catching fish in the middle of night. However, local people rescued seven fishermen. Later, coast guard members with the help of local people retrieved the three bodies from the river at around 5am.
OC of Hatiya police Nurul Huda said the injured were admitted to Oskhali Health Complex.
