A jute mill workers union leader was killed at Khilpara village in Polash upazila of Narsingdi on Friday night.
The deceased has been identified as Forkhan Mia, 45, of Kandapara village in Polash upazila. He was a leader of Bangladesh Jute Mills workers union and member of a drug resistance committee.
Police and witnesses said on the day of the incident, Forkhan was returning home from mosque after Isha prayers. When he reached one Mohammd Ali’s house of Khilpara village, a group of seven to eight criminals shot and injured him.
Later, local people rescued and sent Forkan to the local Roushan Ali private clinic where doctors referred him to Dhaka Medical College Hospital. But he died on the way to DMCH.
According to Officer-in-Charge Abul Kalam Azad and local people Forkhan Mia had a conflict with drug peddler Kamrul Islam. Forkhan, with the help of local elites, was campaigning against illegal drug peddling.
