Dhaka dwellers are likely to experience more telecommunication blackout at night in near future as the telecom regulatory authorities will conduct more exercises.
Bangladesh Telecommuni-cations Regulatory Commission (BTRC) Chairman Shahjahan Mahmud told The Independent that these blackouts will continue in different parts of Dhaka.
These drills are aimed at assessing the authorities’ technical capacity to cut off internet during an emergency. Earlier, BTRC announced a telecommunication blackout anytime between 1:00am and 4:30am on Tuesday in the city as a drill to see if they could shut down internet, mobile operations in case of an emergency.
