Shafiul Islam forced his way into the first-class scene in 2007 after he steered Rajshahi Division to an improbable win the bat. His abilities with the new ball soon made the Bangladesh talent spotters take note. In 2010, he earned a call-up to the national ODI squad for the home tri-series against India and Sri Lanka in the chance of injuries to Mashrafe Bin Mortaza.

Now the team gets down the minimum two or three and maximum four pace bowlers against the opponent side in a match. There was a fierce battle going on, and Shafiul found himself in the thick of it. He himself admits that It now becomes very difficult to get a place in the team.
“I like to take challenge. I’ll try to prepare myself so that I can cross all to place my position. There were less competition in the team but the situation has been changed a lot. At least four bowlers are in the pipeline for the one place. “
