The alleged criminal, who was killed in a gunfight with Rajshahi Metropolitan Police (RMP) on Tuesday, was a “militant” involved in the killing of Rajshahi University Professor AFM Rezaul Karim Siddiquee.
The man was identified as Nazrul alias Hasan alias Bike Hasan alias Parvez, 30, of Sonahar Gojpuri village under Debiganj Police Station of Panchagarh district, said RMP Commissioner Shafiul Islam.
Confirming the matter, Islam said he (Nazrul) was an active JMB member. Nazrul took part directly in 13 murder attempts and succeeded on 11 instances.
He was also accused in most of the recent murders occurred in Rajshahi and Rangpur. He was also involved in murders in Panchagarh, Tangil and Kustia districts, Islam added.
Police said that Nazrul was known as Bike Hasan as he used to take the militants to murder scenes by motorbike. He also allegedly helped his associates escaping from the crime scenes.
The RMP commissioner was talking to journalists at a press briefing after launching “Beat Policing” aimed to curb militancy in different areas of the city.
Nazrul was one of the two fugitives for whom the RMP, on July 29, declared a bounty of Tk 1 lakh for their involvement in the Siddique murder case.
