Speakers at a roundtable discussion yesterday said a unilateral quality education system should be introduced to ensure sustainable development by removing disparities and empowering the people meaningfully, reports BSS.
They said people need to be empowered to achieve Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and quality education can ensure such empowerment, remove disparities and poverty from the society.
Bangladesh Unnayan Parishad (BUP) organised the discussion at the National Press Club with its vice-chairman Dr Rezaul Karim in the chair. Palli Karma-Sahayak Foundation (PKSF) chairman Dr Qazi Kholikuzzaman Ahmad, former deputy governor of Bangladesh Bank Khandker Ibrahim Khaled, PKSF managing director MD Abdul Karim, Dr Asaduzzaman, Dr Ahmed Al Kabir and BUP executive director Dr Nilufar Banu, among others, took part in the discussion.
Khandker Ibrahim Khaled said people must be empowered by increasing their skills to achieve SDGs. He said a work strategy will have to be sorted out for ensuring the proper implementation of the SDGs.
Dr Qazi Kholikuzzaman Ahmad said there are 17 SDGs and Bangladesh needs to give emphasis on the three goals - removal of hunger, poverty and disparity. A work plan will have to be taken in line with the spirit of Liberation War because like SDGs, the spirit of Liberation War is establishing a society free from hunger, poverty and disparity, he added.
