Internet Service Providers (ISPs) are going to exercise internet blackout in capital’s particular area as part of its drill to shutdown internet operation to tackle any emergency situation like the incident of Holey Artisan Bakery.
Bangladesh Telecommuni-cation Regulatory Commission (BTRC) Vice Chairman Ahsan habib Khan has said that to combat terrorism there may be internet blackout on holidays.
This entire process is a part of the drill which may in future help stop misusing of internet in a grave situation, he said adding this may be a continuous process.
Adding to the statement he said that the internet black out are done at night so that mass people would not face problems. To combat situation like Gulshan attack this type of drill is being exercised.
An internet blackout was held in the capital on Tuesday.
BTRC Chairman Dr Shahjahan Mahmood said: “the drill would be taken place in capital’s few places in between today’s (Monday) afternoon to midnight.”
He, however, is reluctant to disclose the name of the areas where the drill would be exercised.
All types of internet (fixed and wireless) would be come under the drill, Dr Mahmood said: “the blackout drill would be lasted for 15 to 30 minutes.
