DU journalism dept celebrates 54th anniv
Mass Communication and Journalism (MCJ) Department of Dhaka University, the country's oldest discipline in journalism studies, on Tuesday celebrated its 54th founding anniversary with a call for mass media to resist militancy.
A colorful procession, led by Dhaka University (DU) Vice-Chancellor Professor AAMS Arefin Siddique, was brought out on the campus in morning.
Clad in t-shirt, hats and ribbons, several hundred teachers , students and alumnus of the department joined the procession under the banner ‘Mass Media Must Resist Militancy, Dear Bangladesh’ from Aparajeyo Bangla in front of 'Kala Bhaban' (Arts Faculty building). The procession paraded different campus thoroughfares and ended at Teacher-Student Center of the university. "The terrorists and perpetrators want to create a panic situation in the country through unleashing militant attacks. Mass resistance should be waged against the menace," Professor Arefin Siddique, also a faculty of MCJ department, told a discussion on 'mass media and militancy' held at RC Majumder Arts auditorium of the university.
Chief Information Commission and former faculty of MCJ department Professor Golam Rahman and senior professor Dr Sakhawat Ali Khan joined, among others, the discussion with chairman of the department Prof Mafizur Rhaman in the chair.
BUFT, two Australian universities sign MoU
BGMEA University of Fashion & Technology (BUFT) and Deakin University and Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (RMIT) of Australia signed educational collaboration agreement recently, says a press release.
Muzaffar U Siddique, founder Chairman of BUFT, and Guy Littlefair, Pro-Vice Chancellor Industry Development of Deakin University and Andrew Maclntyre, deputy vice chancellor Global Development and vice president of RMIT University, signed the MoU on behalf of their respective organisations. The agreement was signed during a visit of a high level delegation of BUFT at Deakin University and Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (RMIT) of Australia on as the part of ongoing educational research collaboration from July 26 to July 31 2016. The MoU was signed in terms of mutual interest like faculty and student exchange programmes; credit transfer facilities; research and training facilities, internship program in Bangladesh and Australia etc.
Freshers' reception held at Fazilatunnesa Women College
A fresher reception ceremony was held at Bhola Government Fazilatunnesa Women College yesterday.
Acting Principal of the college M Muslim presided over the function. Sadar upazila parishad vice-chairman M Yunus, organising secretary of Zila Awami League moinul Hossain Biplob and Enamul Haque Arju were present as special guest. It was addressed, among others, secretary of the college teacher association Humayan Kabir, former principal Dulal Chandra Gosh, associate professor of English department M Enaetullah and assistant professor of Bangla department M Ebrahim Shamim.
