A group of students of Jagannath University yesterday staged demonstrations on the campus demanding construction of dormitories on the empty land of Dhaka Central Jail which has been shifted to Keraniganj, reports UNB.
The students, led by some leaders and activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL), started the demonstrations around 12pm with placards and banners, said officer-in-charge of Kotwali Police Station Abul Hasan.
The students alleged that house owners are not renting out spaces to students in the wake of recent militant attacks in the country, leaving many of them having no family in Dhaka in troubles.
On Friday, the government relocated the 200-year old Dhaka Central Jail to a newly-built prison at Rajendrapur in Keraniganj.
