ICT sends ex-army man to jail

The International Crimes Tribunal (ICT)-1 yesterday sent a former Pakistani army commander of Bangladeshi origin to jail for his monstrous crimes against humanity in 1971, reports BSS.
The ICT-1 sent Muhammad Shahidullah, 72, to jail as the accused was brought to tribunal by the police yesterday. The tribunal set October 17 for further hearing in the case.
Police arrested Shahidullah, who allegedly commanded a Pakistani army post in his ancestral district of Comilla in 1971, was arrested from his house in village Golaper Char under Daudkandi upazilla in Comilla on Tuesday.
Earlier in the morning on August 2, the three-member tribunal issued arrest warrant against the accused, accepting a plea of prosecutor Abul Kalam.
According to the prosecution, Shahidullah was in-charge of the Pakistani army camp raised at Daudkandi High School and committed crimes along with his cronies from the camp.
This is the first time a military person has been arrested for war crimesin 1971.
