In a bid to return to the national fold with the upcoming series against South Africa, all the fringe and injured players did practice at BCB gym under their respective rehab programme. Even some regular players were seen to have gym to make them fit for the games.
Pacers Al Amin Hossain, batsmen Anamul Haque Bijoy, Mohammad Mithun Ali were seen alongside pacer Mohammad Shohid, off-spinner Taijul Islam and World Cup hero Mahmudullah Ryad to have gym.
Of them, middle-order batsman Mahmudullah Ryad, who missed out the just concluded home series against India due to his finger injury, started his four-week rehab programme.
He is expected to come back in his action with the forthcoming home series against the Proteas. The series will be kickstarted from July 5 with Twenty20. It is heard that the team management seeks that Ryad returns in action with the practice match against South Africa at Fatullah on July 3. In that sense, it will be the acid test for him ahead of the series. But Ryad was tightlipped about it and said that the team management will see the matter. He just goes on his own works.
However, he thinks that the matches of the upcoming home series between Bangladesh and South Africa will be competitive.
“Both India and South Africa are high-ranked and stronger teams in world cricket. The self-confidence after the last home series against Asian giants Pakistan and India will help us to do well in the forthcoming series also. Hopefully all the matches of the series will be competitive and too challenging for us,” said Mahmudullah.
On the other hand, off-spinner Taijul Islam said that he wants to make room in the team fighting with other competitors.
“The competition to make place in the team has been increased rather than other times. We have world class pace bowlers in the side. They are now doing well for the team beside the spinners. But I want to cement my place by performance,” said Taijul Islam.
“It will not right to judge a bowler just by the performance of one series or match. I don’t perform well in the last one-off Test. But nobody can assure that this will not go on in the next series,” Natore-born lad also said.
He said that they have nothing to prove outside of the country as they reached the quarterfinal stage of the World Cup in Australia-New Zealand beating stronger teams.
