3 of a family to walk gallows for killing woman in Gazipur

Three members of a family (Man, his wife and son) were sentenced to death for killing a woman Safia Begum at Khailkur area  of Gazipur city  in 2008.
The Judge of additional district and session judge court of Gazipur Mohammed Fazle Elahi Bhuiyan handed down the verdict yesterday. The convicts were identified as Siddik Bhandary, his wife Ayesha Khatun and their son Tarek alias Murad Hossain of Narayanganj.
The court also fined them Tk 10000 at the same time. They were also sentenced three years of rigorous imprisonment and fined each Tk 5000 in an another section of the judgment in the same case.
However, the convicts have remained absconding from the date of the incident. They all were living in a rental house at South Khailkur area of Gazipur city.
According to the prosecution, Safia Begum, 65, wife of Mohammed Jomir Hossain Paik of South Khailkur area of Gazipur city went out from her residence on May 14 in 2008 and remained missing. Her  body was found near the residence after a day of the incident.
Deceased husband Jamir Hossain filed a case with Joydebpur police station against unidentified men in this connection. Later, police found the involvement of the convict persons with the murder of Safia. Sub inspector of Joydebpur police station and also the investigation officer of the case Suzayet Hossain submitted the chargesheet against them on February 26 in 2009. After a long hearing the court pronounced the verdict yesterday.
Another reports adds: A woman was sentenced for life term imprisonment for killing her husband over watching a TV serial in Star Jalsa in 2015. The judge of Gazipur district and session judge court AKM Anamul Haque announced the verdict yesterday. The convict was identified as Nahida Akanda alias Ripa, daughter of Motiul Islam alias Babu Member of West Chalakchar village under Monohardi upazila in Narsingdi district. She was also fined Tk 10000 at the same time.
In another verdict, a Gazipur court yesterday sentenced three men for life term imprisonment for killing a wood trader at Jalisha village under Kapasia upazila in Gazipur on June 14 in 2008.
The judge of additional district and session judge court of Gazipur ( second court) Mohammed Iqbal Hossain handed down the verdict yestedray. The court also fined each accused Tk 10000, if failed three months of  more imprisonment at the same time. The convicted were identified as Lokman Hossain Shahin alias Bagha Lokman,38, of Jalisha village, Mostafa, 32, of same village and  Mohammed Monsur , 28, of Char Shoiladi under Kaligonj upazila.
The investigation officer and also sub inspector of Kapasia police station Mohammed Abul Kashem submitted chargesheet against the convicts on December 4 in 2008. After a long hearing, the court announced the verdict yesterday.
