The second leg of the Manyavar Bangladesh Premier League is going to start with a huge zeal with six teams staying very closer in the points’ table and all of them are eying to clinch the top spot.
The league will kick off from today with the defending champions Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club and the runners-up Abahani Limited will start their second leg on the opening day with the former will take on Farashganj Sporting Club and the latter will face Rahmatganj MFS.
The league committee of the BFF though deferred the league for a week but they expected to conclude the league by August 13 with organising two and three matches each in a day at the Bangabandhu National Stadium and Chittagong MA Aziz Stadium.
But it is a bit doubtful whether the BFF will be able to follow their fixture appropriately, as the monsoon weather can interrupt the league every now and then.
However, all the title contenders are waiting eagerly to begin their campaign while the championship is wide open for all of them, as there is no clear domination of any particular team.
Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club, who are leading table with 23 points, still not beyond the reach of others, as they are only three points ahead of three teams- Mohammedan Sporting Club, Sheikh Russel Krira Chakra and Brothers Union. They are closely following Sheikh Jamal. Even, no team could finish the first phase as unbeaten while every team suffered defeat and dropped points. So the league will start with huge excitement and it look certain that there will be very competitive, as any of the top six teams have every chance to reach the top of the points table.
Favourites and also the leaders Sheikh Jamal in their first phase 10 encounters won seven matches, shared points with Mohammedan Sporting Club (1-1) and Brothers Union (0-0) while suffered only defeat to Abahani Limited (2-0).
The second positioned Mohammedan Sporting Club won six, drew two and conceded as many defeats to earn 20 points while Brothers Union and Sheikh Russel Krira Chakra also earned 20 points and won six, drew two and conceded two defeats.
Muktijoddha, who are just four points behind to the leaders finishing first round with 19 points, are also expecting to fight for the trophy while they also won six matches but suffered three defeats and drew one match.
Abahani Limited, who are on sixth position with managing 17 points, also adamant to recover their first phase debacle to make a championship fight. Abahani could win five matches, drew two and suffered three defeats.
Meanwhile, Rahmatganj MFS, Team BJMC and Soccer Club Feni are almost out of danger of relegation with obtaining nine and eight points respectively.
But Farashganj Sporting Club and Chittagong Abahani Limited are the two bottom sides, will start the second leg to avoid the relegation.
