Some 20,000 flood-affected people in southern Bangladesh are to receive financial assistance to replenish food and other necessities lost when the area was hit by cyclone Roanu in May, which was followed by heavy rainfall, severe flooding and landslides, reports BSS. The poorest families in the worst-affected areas of Kutubdia, Maheshkali in Cox's Bazar, Tazumuddin in Bhola, Kalapara in Patuakhali, and Patharghata and Taltoli in Barguna will receive Tk 4,000 per month over the next two months to stabilise food security. The money is being provided by the United Nations Central Emergency Response Fund (CERF) under the World Food Programme (WFP).
