BCB to build sporting wickets for BCL

Sports Reporter

The fifth edition of the Bangladesh Cricket League (BCB) will be held on sporting wicket as the chairman of the BCB grounds committee Hanif Bhuiyan believed the wicket should help both batsmen and bowlers to test their skill.
He however didn’t rule out preparing a bouncy wicket according to the desire of the selectors. Bhuiyan said at least one venue will be designed to assist the fast bowlers of the country.
“I always want sporting wicket. If I prepare any specific wicket, the problem may arise in international cricket. When the games will be held in our condition one type of wicket will be built. Again when we will go there to play they will then  build the wicket they prefer. So I want this type of wicket which can test both batsmen and bowler’s skill,” Hanif Bhuiyan said yesterday.
“Many told us to build bouncy wicket in Rangpur. The work has already started. The board president himself went there. It would be better if we could build bouncy wicket. We know the difference of the soil. Weather is a big factor. In that case, Rangpur will be better place for the bouncy wicket.”
However the Mirpur Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium, considered as the ‘Home of Cricket’ will get no match of the prime first class cricket tournament of the country.
Bhuyian said since Sher-e-Bangla Stadium and two stadiums of Chittagong will be kept reserved for the home series against England.
Three different grounds of Fatullah, Bangladesh Krira Shikkha Prothisthan (BKSP) and Rangpur will be used for the BCL matches.
“We held a meeting, where the members of the tournament committee, curators and selectors were present. We’ve discussed about BCL alongside home series against England. Apart from that, we’ve fixed grounds for these two tournaments,” Hanif Bhuiyan said yesterday.
“We’ve reserved Dhaka and Chittagong for the England series. Along with that, we’ve prepared the grounds of Fatullah and BKSP for the BCL. We’ve got proposal to choose Bogra as the third ground. But we coupled with sponsors showed no interest for the outside of Dhaka. So, we’ve kept ready two grounds of BKSP and one of Fatullah for the league,” Bhuyian told reporters after the end of the meeting at the Lounge of the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium.
“I’ve given directive to my department to see the ground for the games as no tournament is being held since many days. Now we’re ready for England and BCL. The officials will go to the fields to see the indoor and outdoor facilities,” he added.
“Selectors proposed us to arrange the BCL in Dhaka and Chittagong but we could not hold it at this moment. England wants to take their preparation. And so, we have kept a practice match at MA Aziz Stadium for England.”
Bhuiyan urged District Sports Association to organise the local tournament so that the games could be played round the year.
“We’ve enough grounds but we could not play tournaments. We have told DSAs that nobody should depend only on the board. DSAs could organise tournament with the help of the sponsor to host the local tournament at these grounds.
