Students, teachers, and employers and employees of thousands of educational institutions across the country yesterday stood up against militancy and terrorism, urging all to be united to weed out militancy from the country, and creating history in the process.
Clad in the uniforms of their respective educational institutions, they held banners, festoons and placards, with the inscriptions: ‘To hell with militancy in the country’, ‘We want peace, not terrorism, we want a life free of fear’, ‘It is a sin to kill people in the name of religion’, and ‘Militancy has no place in the country’.
Some marched down the streets, chanting slogans against militancy and terrorism in a disciplined manner.
They organised the human chain to generate awareness against terrorism and militancy, following the recent spate of terror attacks on the Holey Artisan Bakery in Gulshan, the Sholakia Eid congregation in Kishoreganj and Kallyanpur in the capital.
The whole country acquired a different look as students of schools, colleges, madrasas and universities stood in front of their campuses or adjacent areas from 11am to 12pm. They raised their voices to assert that militancy has no place in Bangladesh.
Nahid urged all the people to stand up against militancy and terrorism in the country and called upon all educational institutions that follow foreign curricula to include the culture, history and heritage of the country in their syllabi.
