Customs Intelligence and Investigation Directorate (CIID) yesterday seized two Sports Utility Vehicles (SUVs) worth around Tk11 crore from the city’s Mehedibag and Alankar circle areas.
The two SUV’s Range Rover and Porsche Caysche Magnum were brought under ‘Carnet Facilities’ (temporary export-import without paying duties and import taxes on merchandise that will be re-exported within 12 months).
“Acting on trip-off, conducting a drive in Mehedibag area seized the ‘Range Rover’ worth about Tk 5 crore. Model 2002 and engine 4600 CC,” said Dr Moinul Khan, director general of CIID. “In a drive in Alankar circle another SUV Porsche Caysche Magnum was seized, model 2004 and 4500 CC, worth about Tk 6 crore” added Dr Moinul Khan. “During the drive the owners of the vehicles failed to show documents of registration or import and no documents of the vehicles were found. So when the vehicle came Bangladesh and who import it could not be known,” added Moinul Khan.
