Gulshan restaurant still out-of-bounds

The Holey Artisan Bakery, located at house No. 5 on road No. 79 in Gulshan-2, is still under police surveillance. No one is allowed to go near the restaurant even one month after the militant attack and killing of diners.
Male and female police personnel, deployed at the entry point of the road leading towards the restaurant, have set up two barricades. They check everyone, and stop and search vehicles of residents living in the area.
Some journalists yesterday requested police officers present at the entry point to allow them to take video and photographs of the restaurant from outside, but they were turned back. “We've strictly been ordered by the authorities not to allow outsiders to move towards the restaurant,” said Mesbah, an officer on duty.
Expressing his inability to take journalists near the restaurant, the police officer said they only allow local residents and their vehicles after checking them at the entry point.
About the future of the restaurant, the police officer expressed his ignorance, saying it depends on the authorities.
He said no one, except a driver, had come to the entry point to offer a bouquet for the salvation of the souls of the Gulshan victims.
A tenant, who recently rented a flat in a house at holding No. 18 of the road, shifted there yesterday, and another who had left after the incident returned yesterday, said the building's security guard.
He said law enforcers have taken strong security measures after the attack on the restaurant, but the residents are yet to recover from the shock of July 1.  He added that the situation was improving gradually, and more and more residents were venturing out.
Tofazzal, driver of a person who frequented the Gulshan restaurant, placed a bouquet at the entry point of the road. “Sir (Minhaz Faisal) told me to place the bouquet in the memory of those killed. He used to visit the restaurant with friends,” Tofazzal told this correspondent.  Fortunately, Minhaz was not present during the attack.
Visiting areas of Gulshan-2, it was found that normal life is yet to be restored in the city’s posh area, which has a mixed population of foreigners, and the rich and the influential. Few vehicles, particularly public transport, were seen plying on Gulshan Avenue; the number of rickshaws, too, was far below normal.
This is certainly having an impact on shops, markets and restaurants of the area. There were not many foreigners moving around. Local restaurants, in particular, are bearing the brunt of the attack.
