Customs officials detained a passenger along with 31 gold bars, weighing around 3.6kg, from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in the capital yesterday, reports UNB.
Assistant Commissioner (Customs) Md Al Amin said the arrested passenger identified as Md Didar arrived at the airport by a Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight from Saudi Arabia around 3.05 pm.
When he was crossing the green channel, the customs officials challenged him and recovered the 31 gold bars worth Tk 1.60 crore after searching his language at about 5:30pm, he said.
Didar was due to be handed over to Airport Police Station on completion of legal procedures, AC Al Amin added.
