The government has taken initiatives to transform textbook contents of technical education into e-books and mobile applications (apps) aiming at improving quality of education, reports BSS.
Official sources said initially the Education Ministry is going to transform textbook contents of 65 different trades of SSC (Vocational) course into e-books and mobile apps within the next five months.
Funded by the Bangladesh Technical Education Board (BTEB), it has been planned to give the principals of different Technical and Vocational Institutes responsibility to make the e-books and mobile apps with the technical help of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET).
"We have already started making all books from class VI to X at secondary level into Interactive Digital Textbook (IDT) and our next initiative is to turn textbook contents of different trades of technical education into e-books and mobile apps," education secretary Md. Nazrul Islam Khan told BSS yesterday.
He said IDT of class VI of secondary level will be inaugurated in September next when a dateline for turning the books of 65 different trades of SSC vocational into e-book and mobile apps has been set on October.
"E-book and mobile apps will help students come out from memorizing knowledge as it will contain software based interactive learning materials with video and animation," said Khan.
He said the principals of different technical institutes have already been entrusted with the responsibility to make the textbook contents of 65 trades' of SSC Voc courses into e-books and mobile apps aimed at completing the task within the dateline.
Khan said the government has a plan to provide tab to the students so that they can read the e-books and mobile apps using the technological devices.
Additional Secretary (additional) Ashoke Kumar Biswas said the objective of making e-book and mobile apps is to create a discussion group to share knowledge and experience.
