Five people were killed and four others injured when a vegetable-laden truck plunged into a roadside ditch on Jibannagar- Kaliganj road in Moheshpur upazila of the district on Wednesday night. The deceased were identified as Liton, Manzil, Mainuddin, Mustak Hossain and Hashem Ali, all were day labourers and hailed from Chuadanga. Sub-Inspector of Kotchandpur Police Station Braja Bahlab Sadhu said the accident took place around 9:30pm when a Khulna-bound eggplant-laden truck fell into a roadside ditch after one of its front tyres got deflated near Katakhali Bridge, leaving five people dead on the spot. Fire fighters with local people rescued four injured people and sent them to a local hospital in Kotchandpur. Station Manager of Kotchandpur Fire Service and Civil Defense Pradip Kumar Mandal said fire fighters from Kotchandpur, Jessore and Jhenidah conducted the rescue operation.
