A Juba League activist was killed and five others injured in a factional clash in Hajipur under Begumganj upazila of the district on Wednesday afternoon.
The deceased was identified as Masududdin, 31, son of Tajul Islam of Hajipur union of Begumganj upazila.
Police said a group of Juba League activists said to be loyal to Suman engaged into chase and counter-chase with their rival group led by Samrat on Wednesday afternoon.
At one stage, both the groups opened fire on each other, leaving Masud, Sohel, Alo and three others injured. Local people sent the injured to Noakhali General Hospital where doctor declared Masud dead. The others injured were undergoing treatment at the hospital.
Officer-in-Charge of Begumganj police station Sajadur Rahman confirmed the matter and said the two Juba League group had long-standing rivalry over establishing supremacy in the area.
