Selling yoga..!
The rest of the world looked at the nation that wanted to teach the rest of the world, yoga, “You want to teach us yoga?” asked the rest of the world to the nation that wanted to teach the rest of the world yoga.
“Yes,” said the nation that wanted to teach the rest of the world yoga.
“Why?”
“Because of its benefits!”
“What benefits?”
“Peace of mind. Calm. A deep sense of contentment!”
“Sounds good!” said the rest of the world, “But..”
“But what?” asked the country that wanted to teach the rest of the world.
“But does it work?”
“Of course it works!”
“The rest of the world looked hard at the country that wanted to teach the rest of the world yoga, “We see strife! We see fighting, we see distrust, we see raping and killing!”
“Don’t!”
“Don’t what?” asked the rest of the world.
“Don’t stare at me so hard!”
“Why?” asked the rest of the world, “If you want to sell the rest of us yoga, we need to see whether its worked on you first. We see lots of people posturing themselves in different poses, why that man with the white beard seems to be quite adept at twisting his body! Yoga didn’t help much when it came to the slaughter that took place when he was head of his state a decade ago?”
“Yoga hasn’t done much to the language he uses about his opponents when he goes on a political rally does it?”sneered a country across the sea.
“Yoga hasn’t done much for your corruption!” quipped another country also across the ocean, “You are known as one of the most corrupt in the
world!”
The country that wanted to teach the rest of the world yoga looked at itself.
It saw a bearded man doing his posturing and getting into the Guinness book of records while a record number of people died the same day in Mumbai after drinking illicit liquor.
It saw people starving in villages, women terrified to go onto the streets in the cities. It saw journalists being killed for writing against politicians. Young women arrested for blogging their thoughts against the government.
The country that wanted to teach the rest of the world yoga, turned away from the rest of the world and looked hard at itself, “I need to change, before selling myself to the rest of the world,” it whispered as the rest of the world heaved a sigh of relief and went about their business..!
