Bangladesh may get a chance to play some cricket after being away from it since the World T20 in April.
The BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India) is mulling to have a tri-nation Twenty20 series in Florida which will include Bangladesh and West Indies besides India. According to the reports in Indian newspaper, BCCI plans to make India play a Twenty20 series against West Indies in late August.
West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) has agreed to host the series. The series will be held at the Central Broward Regional Park at Lauderhill in Florida. There have also been indication of the series turning into Twenty20 tri-series involving Bangladesh being the third team.
Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) media and communication chairman Jalal Yunus however informed the board has not received any official invitation as of yesterday.
“We have not received anything regarding the Twenty20 series yet. But I am sure the board (BCB) will think positively if there is an invitation,” Yunus said yesterday.
“We haven’t been in cricket for quite some times. So any kind of offer will be reviewed positively.”
The series is proposed to take place in August last. Quarried if Bangladesh will have to hurry their preparation Yunus said, “I do not think it should be a problem. Our cricketers are already having their camp at the moment so it will not be a problem to send a team there. But then again the decision will depend on the board. The board will have to discuss if any invitation is received”
The BCCI’s plan to have a Twenty20 series in USA (United States of America) is replacement of the mini IPL (India Premier League) the board had mulled earlier. The BCCI had planned a mini-IPL in USA but had to call it off due to lack of time.
The venue in Florida, Central Broward Regional Park, has hosted four international Twenty20s all featuring New Zealand. The Kiwis faced Sri Lanka in a two-match series in 2010 followed by the West Indians in July 2012. The matches were played in front of full houses.
