Rahmatganj MFS extended Sheikh Russe Krira Chakra’s agony with a handsome 2-0 win in their Bangladesh Premier League Football match at MA Aziz Stadium yesterday in Chittagong.
It was second successive defeat for title contenders Sheikh Russel as they tasted defeat at the hands of Uttar Baridhara in their fist match.
Mahbub Hassan Nayan opened the scoring on 76th minute for Rahmatganj and Alauddin sealed the victory with a spectacular volley three minutes before the stipulated 90 minutes time.
It was third successive win for Rahmatganj against Sheikh Russel Russel when they upset the Old Dhaka outfit in the season opener Independence Cup and the Federation Cup tournament.
The defending runners-up could have gone into safe side within half an hour of the game but Mintu Sheikh was the first one to give the missing trial when the defender overlapped to receive a square pass of Paul Emily inside the box but took a very weak shot over the cross bar on 18th minute.
Alamgir Rana had a better opportunity to send Russel into lead on 30th minute but the midfielder missed the target when his close range effort in an empty net went wide after Paul Emily providing a cut back breaking defense on 30th minute.
Rahmatganj, who halted Mohammedan Sporting Club on 1-1 in their first match, came in the second half had a chance to take lead when Didarul failed to beat Russel goalkeeper in one and one situation after a solo lead on 66th.
Russel created great opportunity on 47th minute but a powerful shot on target from substitute Rummon Hossain was brilliantly saved by Rahmatganj keeper Samiul Islam Masum at the cost of a corner.
Mahbub Hassan Nayan split open the Russel defence line on 76th minute with slamming home on a Siyo Zunapiyo low cross inside the area from the right flank against run of the game (1-0).
Rahmatganj seized the match result in favour of them when defender Alauddin overlapped to blast a superb volley on a return ball when a corner was not fully cleared by Monem Khan Raju, as his header came to Alauddin’s way on 87th minute (2-0).
After conceding the second goal on 87th minutes, rest of the three minutes were not enough for Russel to recover the arrears and had to leave the ground with the second defeat.
Coach Maruful Haque said, “I don’t think that right now we are derailed from the championship fight. It is a long run league, so we have opportunity to bounce back.”
