Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister Rashed Khan Menon yesterday said the recent militant attacks in the country will not affect the country’s tourism sector, reports UNB.
The minister came up with the observation while talking to reporters after addressing the second session on the penultimate day of the four-day Deputy Commissioners’ Conference at the Secretariat.
He also said the country’s tourism sector has been witnessing a steady growth.
Despite the killing of an Italian and a Japanese citizen in separate attacks last year, the number of foreign tourists visiting the country that year was 10,000 more than the average figure, he added.
During the conference, the DCs suggested the government take care of potential tourism spots across the country to attract more foreign tourists, Menon added.
He said the government introduced tourist police with a view to ensuring the security of the foreign tourists as well as the local ones.
The minister said terrorists and militants have been carrying out gruesome attacks not only in Bangladesh but also in many other countries of the world like the United States, France, Germany and Japan.
